The hero that killed Diablo in the previous game could not contain the soul of Diablo anymore and ended up being possessed by it. Having regained control, Diablo is planning to release his brothers, the so-called Prime Evils: Mephisto, Lord of hatred, and Baal, Lord of Destruction.
"Diablo II: Lord of Destruction" continues the story from where it was left at the end of the previous games ("Diablo" and "Diablo II"). After killing Diablo and Mephisto, the player heads toward the Mount Arreat into wild barbarian lands, to prevent Baal from taking over the World Stone, an artifact that protects World of Sanctuary from both Heaven and Hell forces.
Besides adding a final fifth act to the game and a new area, Barbarian Highlands, the expansion brings also 2 new classes, the Assassin and the Druid.
The Assassin fights using a combination of martial arts, poisons, and the ability to trap enemies. It's considered by many as an ancestor of the "World Of Warcraft" rogue class.
The Druid is an expert of natural magic, using shape-shifting and minions to deal with foes. This class was also further developed in "World of Warcraft" under the same name.
A multitude of new weapons, items, and rune combinations come with the add-on as well, pushing players even more to grind for gear. "Lord of Destruction" also improves the game's resolution from 640x480 to 800x600 - which is still not quite much. more
